Unless you are lucky enough to have a vast garden with room for both decking and a patio area, chances are you are going to need to choose between the two. You should think about the pros and cons of both in relation to your own home and circumstances. Here are some of the things to think about:

• Space. A small patio may be a better option if you are lacking in space. This can be built right next to your property and will give you room for a seating area.
• Ground level. If the ground is uneven, decking can be the perfect option as it can be built up above a slope.
• Price. You will need to take construction costs into account for both. Some types of wood may be cheaper, however bear in mind that they probably won’t be as durable either. Flagstones and concrete are more sturdy.
