A bathroom is actually a very important part of the home but despite this, it can become neglected and often not much is done with it for years.

If you or family members have any physical limitations then you may struggle to use a bathroom that has not been designed with this in mind. As you get older you may find that you struggle to get in and out of the bath or that the sink is too low down for you to use. All of these factors can make using the bathroom not only awkward but also possibly unsafe.

When designing an accessible bathroom, you need to carefully consider the space you have and how you are going to lay out all the facilities in the room to give enough room for them to be used by everyone. If you have two bathrooms you may decide to only have a bath in one of them and have a shower in the other. If no one in your household tends to like having baths then you may decide to invest in decent shower facilities instead.

A wet room is a great idea as you do not have to factor in the space for a bath or a shower cubical. The whole room can be tiled and drainage installed to allow a shower to be fitted to the room.

From time-to-time rooms can look worn out and in desperate need of a bit of a makeover. When you decide to do a makeover of one of the rooms in your house you need to decide exactly what you are going to do. Often things need to be done in a certain order so it is important to know what changes you want to make before you start. If you do not want to spend much on the room then a coat of paint on the walls and ceiling and fresh coat of gloss on the woodwork really can transform the room. Clean windows can make a huge different to the appearance of your home. Often, we don’t notice our windows until the sun hits them and we can then see all the dust, spider’s webs and grubby finger marks all over them.

The best way to clean outside windows is to get a bucket of soapy water and a car sponge. You may even want to use car shampoo or if not washing up liquid. You can then give the windows a really good rub with the sponge and also clean all the plastic trim around them too. If your water starts to get dirty, remember to change it often as there is no point in trying to clean glass with dirty water.

Invest in a window squeegee, as it will make the task of drying the windows so much easier. These squeegees can come in a number of different sizes and can often be picked up for as little as a pound from bargain homeware stores. As soon as you have washed the window, pour some clean water over and then immediately use the squeegee going vertically from top to bottom. This should leave a perfect streak free finish. If there are any water marks left, use a shammy or a piece of newspaper to clean them off.

If you are current king living in rented accommodation you at wondered whether it is worth spending money on decorating and doing it up. It may be that this accommodation is only temporary and so you don’t want to spend any money on it as you won’t be there in 6 months time, but if you are on a long term let and have no plans to move soon then you may want to consider doing it up. Some rented properties can be quite dated and the landlord may not do it up before they come to let it out. Although th house should be liveable, it may very well not be to your taste but often the landlord won’t fork out on redecorating if there is nothing really wrong with the old decor(looking dated often isn’t a good enough reason for them to change it).

You could however approach the landlord or letting agent and ask them if you are able to make changes to the property such as painting abs wallpapering. They may want to know exactly what you are planning on doing in there first and even what colours you are going to be using. Some landlords say you are fine to decorate it however you like as long as afterwards it can all be  put back to magnolia.

You may often see lots of adverts on the telly or hear on the radio about how important insulating your home is. The government often offer grants to people on low income to help them improve the insulation in their home. There are a number of reasons as to why you should improve the insulation in your home.

The first thing that proper insulation will do is reduce your gas or electricity bills. By insulating your home properly, you avoid losing too much heat. This will keep your monthly cost down and also help to do your bit for the environment. The less energy we all use the less the world has to produce. Many countries have committed to trying to reduce the amount of wasted energy they produce and to use more renewable sources such as electric cars and wind power.

A new boiler can help heat the home quickly whilst producing less waste.

Most people have insulation in their attic space. This can be replaced from time to time and more added if needed. The better insulated the home the cheaper it is to run.

There are some great tutorials online about how to improve your home and not all of them need to cost a fortune. Swapping to LED bulbs is another way you can save money. You may have to fork out a bit initially but the bulbs should last a lot longer than the usual halogen ones.

When choosing new appliances, be sure to check the energy efficiency rating and choose one that is grade B or above.

When choosing your gas and electric company, try and look for one that promises to use mostly if not entirely green energy. All of these small changes you make can make a huge difference to your pocket and to the environment for years to come.
