Build a Wooden Decking and Enhance the Beauty of Your Garden

Posted on July 31, 2013 at 9:48 am

A manicured garden is a feast for the senses. No five star restaurant in an urban setting could beat a dining area that overlooks a spectacular garden. But sometimes it is a treat to walk in the midst of a beautiful garden and enjoy its loveliness from a different perspective. However, there is one simple problem that prevents a homeowner from simply walking over the grass. It is the thought of damaging the garden. No need to worry about this particular challenge because the solution is within reach. The solution is to build a garden decking or wooden decking for your garden.

If you walk directly on top of the grass, then, you could create a floored area in one spot of the garden or a path through it. For many people it is not a pleasant sight. In the past the best way to deal with this problem was to create a concrete patio. In recent times the more popular choice is garden decking.

There are two basic ways to build a wooden decking. The structure could be built straight over the grass or the homeowner could choose to build over an existing patio. Do not be intimidated by the idea of building one because the typical design calls for a simple grate-style frame. In most cases there are beams every meter. The only other requirement is to install planks of wood over the said frame.

Experienced decorators suggest that it is best to leave the decking unpainted. Several reasons are highlighted why it is best to leave the wooden decking unpainted. First of all, it is easier to maintain unpainted wooden planks. If one will use some sort of a finishing product, then, sun, rain and snow could easily damage the decking. But more importantly it would look natural and looks better considering the organic feel of the garden.

If you decide to build your own, then, it is important to consider the proper tools. It is best not to use nails because they tend to rust. Nails do not seem to have the same capability as screws to hold together the wood and the frame.

One has to consider that these simple tips are only applicable if the design simply requires the construction of a wooden decking over grass. However, if the homeowner wants to build a structure that needs to be raised above the garden the requirements are different. In most cases, the design must consider certain safety features such as the installation of balustrades.

Balustrades prevent children and pets from falling off. If an elderly walks over the patio it would give peace of mind to whomever is in-charge knowing that this safety feature could prevent serious accidents. If the structure is more complicated, and if there are many safety concerns, it is best to hire professionals to build this type of garden decking. If you are skilled carpenter and familiar with the techniques needed to construct a wooden decking raised above the garden your only concern is the need to secure quality building materials.
